My husband and I walked to Phantom Lake, a few blocks from our home in Bellevue, on this cloudy afternoon. We saw ducks diving in the water and a flock of blackbirds flying high above them.
I used the digital macro setting on my camera to get a close-up of the last bloom on my Christmas cactus. My dad gave me this plant about five years ago, but this winter was the first time it bloomed. I think it likes the bright light from the kitchen window in our new home.
Denny’s Pet World in Redmond, Washington, is home to Tiki, a scarlet macaw, who seems both friendly and intelligent. She often says “hello” to visitors who stop by to see the exotic birds on display.

My first photo of 2015 portrays the cold winter we’ve been having in the Seattle area. The jagged lines of some cracked ice caught my eye during an afternoon walk around my neighborhood. I also liked the contrast of the bright green moss.
